I took a very fun workshop via zoom in December with George Politis! He is a great teacher and it was fun to learn some new techniques like collage. Hoping to be able to take a workshop in person with him in Santorini Greece!!!
I just finished 2 of the 3 paintings we worked on in the class- Winter Snow and Christmas Still Life. I am so honored to receive an award from Palden Hamilton during the Rockville Art League Winter Show 2023. "I See You" is a painting of my daughter when she was about 6 years old (now she is 14) and Kitty when we first moved to Maryland. I have always loved this picture of her- so happy to turn it into a painting that others liked as well!!!In October I was fortunate enough to spend 10 days in the south of France on an art retreat! We got to paint every day under the amazing tutelage of Nicki Saunders- a renown painter from the UK. I learned a lot of new techniques, connected with some fantastic artists, and got to see some amazing scenery!
I just finished 3 paintings of my daughter: 1) Mia Close-Up, 2) Best Friends, 3) I see you. She is a true animal lover- and I still have 3 more pets to paint her with!!! She is getting tired of modeling though- I may need to try to get my teenage boys to model! :)
Every fall in MD they have a miniature show- where paintings can't be more than 25 inches total (eg, 5x5 or 4x6). I thought it was a fun challenge but missed the deadline last year. This year I thought I would try a few more- but I can only submit 3 total! Which are your favs?
The tree is of special significance to my daughter and I. We drive past it every day, and it sits isolated on a little hill on a farm. It is very Halloween'y and we went to great lengths to get good close up photos of it :) (In case you are wondering why there are so many I was trying to perfect it!!!) I have 2 of Jenny but the kids keep telling me they don't count since they are so small- so maybe one of Jenny should be my next project :) I made the less colorful gargoyle first, then thought I would try a different technique called "pouring" to make the second one. I can't decide which I like better!
You may wonder why on earth I would want to paint Wile E Coyote….
Well- I love that he is always coming up with unique ideas and problem solving. He never gives up- his persistence and unwavering commitment are truly admirable. And his extreme confidence when he is ready to execute his master plan is awe-inspiring! Plus- he is a GENIUS! Also- I feel bad for him that half the time his schemes don’t work because the laws of physics are being defied 😂. It just doesn’t seem fair!!! And yet he does not give up- he tries and tries again. I feel so fortunate to know these ladies! Many of them I have known for several years now, and we have even travelled to art workshops together! They are so kind and extremely talented individuals- I love working with them!
We had a winter show at the Artistic Framing Gallery in Wheaton MD over December, and this is one of us setting up and one of the opening reception. Can you tell which picture is which? :) I recently sold these 2 works at 2 different shoes this fall. Feeling very fortunate! The Midnight Garden-Cone Flowers even won an award at the show prior to selling!
My colleague just retired after 30 years at the company! He has been my friend and mentor my entire time at this company- it is very strange to not have him here now. I painted this for him as a retirement gift :)
