I was so lucky to spend a week in the mountains at an amazing art workshop last week! I got to take an intensive class from the great watercolor master- Sterling Edwards. He inspired us to become more free with our work and delve into abstracts- both expressionistic and representational. It was so much fun and I hope to continue using the skills learned in his class! The great thing about abstracts is each person sees something different and each painting is completely unique and can not be duplicate! Check out my gallery page for a sampling!
The first is a picture of my oldest child, Max, running along with his beloved dog, Jenny, along the C&O canal in Darnestown Maryland. The second is the walking trail along the Preserves at my dad’s condo in Ft Myers Florida. Love the strong vertical lines in both pieces and the predominantly cool palette. Which one is more peaceful? :)
Better than losing my marbles! Loving the vibrant shadows filled with light and color. Not to mention the smooth glass balls with fun designs that bring backs fun childhood memories! Which is your favorite, green or pink? :)
I gave my parents their late/early gifts last weekend when they came to visit. The one of my dad is him boating with Max about 10 years ago. My favorite part is his "boat hair"- it definitely makes my dad who he is! The one of my mom is her and dad at their favorite restaurant- Georgio's- for the anniversary dinner (~44 years strong!). I made giclées of both so that I can have a copy too, and my oldest son, now 12, can have the pic of him and Grandpa boating together!
I recently completed a painting for a dear friend- our nanny of the past 5 years- Mercedes. Mercedes' mother passed away nearly a year ago, and Mercedes will go back to Ecuador for the anniversary of her mother's death this summer. I know how dear her mother was to her, I hope this painting brings her some happiness. I am posting below the original photo, along with a few stages along the way, to show how the painting progressed. I debated whether or not to add flowers- I wanted to make sure it didn't distract from the most beautiful flower (her mother), so I kept them soft and muted. My absolute favorite feature of Mercedes' mother is her adorable mouth!
Here are a couple smaller works I have done- which were great fun. Never posted them on the website but thought it may be fun to show in my blog :) First we have a zebra, which is mostly pen and ink from a photo my friend and photographer Melanie Fein captured on a safari trip. The next one is some Easter eggs. I love the beautiful eggs and the reflections on to the glossy black table. The black table was done using ink but I may redo using watercolor instead- which I think would make a smoother consistency.
